In our earlier years, what we choose to wear is generally driven by unconscious intentions or the need to belong or to be desired. It could be to compensate for poor self-image, self-esteem, or it could be the need to feel accepted or seen by others. As we grow up and experience more of life, there’s generally a readiness and willingness to reimagine our image and style that is more representative of our personal journey to authenticity and empowerment. What that means and looks like varies for each of us, but ultimately it’s guiding and leading us to align our personality with who we were meant to become.
Who do you want to be?
What would the ideal future version of you be like?
What would it feel and look like to freely embody that version of you today?
While self-expression is beyond the clothes we wear, it’s important to note that what we put on our bodies is just as important as what we put inside our bodies. When we are clear on our values and who we aspire to be, it makes self-expression, including what we wear, more enjoyable and effortless. We begin to leverage clothing in a way that allows us to lessen the gap between the current self and future self, guiding us toward self-actualization that allows us to experience more of the life we’ve been seeking. The feeling we have from the clothing choices we make is what enables us to connect with the person we were always meant to be; that part of us that has always existed within and that deserves to be expressed into the world.
